JBU is a 105-year-old non-denominational Christian institution. With over 2,000 students from 40 nations, JBU is dedicated to education through and through. The university was founded by evangelist and publisher John Elward Brown.

Originally, JBU was a high school and junior college, with an emphasis on vocational training for lower-class youth.

“Head, heart, and hand” was coined as the university’s slogan by founder John Elward Brown in the 1920s. It has been the university’s slogan ever since.
